Many individuals who are injured on the job and unable to work may wonder if they are eligible for food stamps. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), commonly known as food stamps, provides monthly benefits to low-income individuals and families to help them purchase food.
To be eligible for SNAP, individuals must meet certain income and asset limits. Income limits vary by state and household size, but in general, households must have a gross income that is less than 130% of the federal poverty level. Asset limits are also in place, and households cannot have more than $2,000 in countable assets, or $3,000 if one household member is elderly or disabled.
