The Maine Department of Health and Human Services Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as the Food Stamp Program, provides food assistance to low-income Mainers. Benefits are issued monthly through an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card that can be used to purchase food at authorized retailers.
SNAP is the largest federal nutrition assistance program in the United States. In Maine, SNAP benefits help to reduce food insecurity and improve the nutritional health of low-income individuals and families.
